A Welland man suspected of intentionally striking two St. Catharines pedestrians on Thursday was still being sought by police Friday, but the car he was last seen driving was located. The white vehicle was not the one involved in the crash that saw two men in their 20s injured in downtown St.

Catharines on Thursday morning. That car crashed into a tree after striking the pedestrians.

It was abandoned at the scene by the driver, who ran away. The incident unfolded just before noon Thursday in the area of Court and Church Streets. Police said a year-old man was driving a black Chevrolet Cobalt when it struck two male pedestrians, ages 23 and 25, before hitting the tree. The driver took off and was seen getting into another vehicle near Church Street. The year-old pedestrian was transported to a hospital outside the region with non life-threatening injuries.

The 23 year old suffered minor injuries.

Police said they located the female driver who picked up the male suspect. She was unharmed. The male suspect was later seen by police in a white Hyundai Elantra in the Fonthill area. Police said they were unable to stop the vehicle for safety reasons. On Friday, police tweeted out that they were getting reports of sightings of the suspect in the Elantra in Niagara Falls.

The Elantra had significant front-end damage and was missing its front plate. Young remains wanted for two counts of assault with a weapon, failing to remain at the scene of an accident, dangerous driving and theft of a motor vehicle.

The man, who police have not publicly identified, suffered from upper body trauma. On Wednesday, William Welland, 37, of Tampa, was apprehended in southern Georgia after he shot at officers, grazing one, authorities said.

Welland was shot multiple times and was being treated at a hospital Thursday. Tampa police detectives headed to Georgia on Thursday to continue their investigation of the homicide, police reported. The suspect in that case was later identified as Welland, who was driving a black Audi reported stolen in Tampa, authorities said.

Welland then drove to another home and stole a mini-van, authorities said. Deputies saw Welland and tried to pull him over, but he led them on a short pursuit, then left the van and ran away. He fired at officers and they returned fire, authorities said. Welland and the home owner he is accused of shooting were being treated at a hospital in Valdosta, Ga.

Their conditions were not released. Welland has an arrest record in Hillsborough County that includes charges of robbery and cocaine possession.
